Mumbai: The cleanup marshals of Mumbai Municipal Corporation fined 53 thousand citizens for spreading filth in the city and collected a sum of Rs 1.5 crore from them as fine. The highest fine has been collected from Colaba area i.e. 'A' ward.

Since April, 858 marshals have been appointed in 24 wards of the city. A fine of Rs 100 to Rs 1000 is imposed for throwing garbage, spitting, urinating on the road, etc. In 'A' ward, 15,550 people were prosecuted and a fine of Rs 31.33 lakh was collected. Then a big action was taken in 'R Madhya' ward, Gorai area of ​​National Park. Where action was taken against 3,613 people and a fine of Rs 14.4 lakh was collected. After this, a fine amount of Rs 11.39 lakh was collected in 'K East' Andheri area. Action was taken against 2655 people in R-South (Kandivali) ward and a fine of Rs 10.71 lakh was collected. The level of filth is less in Mulund's 'T' ward. Where 183 people were prosecuted and a fine of Rs 1.41 lakh was collected.

Clean up marshals were first appointed in 2007. But later due to public dissatisfaction and complaints against them, the service of clean up marshals was stopped. Which has been started again. There are many government, private offices, offices of entrepreneurs, big hotels, ministries, municipalities and tourist places in Colaba's 'A' ward, so there is more traffic here. Therefore, action has been taken on a large scale here. The municipality has deployed 112 marshals in this ward.
