London, Aug 15 (HS). Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until the end of June 2027, with an option to extend his stay until 2028. The new contract is a boost for the club on the verge of starting the new Premier League season.

The 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder moved to Manchester United from Sporting Clube de Portugal in January 2020 and has scored 79 goals in 234 appearances, as well as providing 67 assists.

He had previously signed a new contract in 2022, and it was due to expire in 2026. He was named as club captain ahead of Harry Maguire in the summer of 2023.

“Everyone knows how much passion I have for Manchester United. I can see how positive the future is going to be, and I'm enjoying taking this team forward. I understand the responsibility and importance of wearing this shirt and the level of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club,” Bruno was quoted as saying by the club's website.
