Asaram Bapu: The Rajasthan High Court has granted seven days parole for treatment to religious leader Asaram Bapu, who is serving life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail. The 85-year-old Baba will go to Maharashtra for treatment in police custody.

The POCSO court in Jodhpur convicted Asaram Bapu for raping a minor at his ashram and sentenced him to life imprisonment. A trial court in Gujarat convicted the baba of repeatedly raping a female follower at his Surat ashram in 2013.

Asaram is in jail since 2013
Asaram has been in jail since 2 September 2013, after which he tried several times to get out of jail and get bail but failed. It is being told that Asaram, who was serving sentence in jail, suddenly had chest pain, due to which he was admitted to Jodhpur AIIMS.

The petition was dismissed in March
Earlier in March, the Supreme Court had refused to intervene in a plea of Asaram Bapu challenging the Rajasthan High Court's decision dismissing his plea seeking suspension of his sentence on medical grounds.

Though the Supreme Court said the cleric can approach the High Court for permission to seek medical treatment, Asaram Bapu, in his plea filed through his lawyers, said his health is precarious and deteriorating rapidly.
