PM-Surya Ghar Yojana: The Modi government launched the 'PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme' in January this year with the aim of promoting solar energy. Now on Monday, the government issued some guidelines for the implementation of 'Model Solar Village' under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said in a statement that as a component of the scheme, emphasis has been laid on creating model solar villages in every district across India. Its aim is to promote the acceptance of solar energy and make rural communities self-reliant in energy needs.

Rs 800 crore allocated

The ministry said that Rs 800 crore has been allocated for this. In this, each selected model solar village will be given Rs one crore. MNRE had notified the guidelines of the scheme for the implementation of the model solar village on August 9, 2024. The villages will be selected through a competitive process. In this, the district level committee will select the village. After six months, the villages will be evaluated on the basis of installed overall distributed renewable energy capacity. As per the guidelines, the village to be considered under the competitive process should be a revenue village. Its population should be more than 5,000 (or 2,000 for special category states). The scheme will be implemented by the State / Union Territory Renewable Energy Development Agency under the supervision of the District Level Committee. This will ensure that the selected villages are effectively converted into solar energy communities. These will serve as models for other villages across the country.

What is the plan?

Let us tell you that the Government of India approved the PM-Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme in February this year. Its objective is to increase the capacity share of solar power plants on rooftops and empower residential houses to generate electricity. Under this scheme, every family is given the benefit of 300 units of free electricity. Apart from this, the government also gives subsidy of ₹ 30000 to ₹ 78000 on solar system in this scheme. 1 crore eligible families of the country are going to get the benefit of this scheme. The outlay of this scheme is Rs 75,021 crore and it is to be implemented by 2026-27.
