In today's India, the age difference between a boy and a girl at the time of marriage is not considered a big problem. Even though this was debated decades ago, now girls are marrying boys much older than them. However, the practice of marrying a younger girl to an older boy has been going on for centuries. But this custom of the girl being older and the boy being younger in marriage is being seen only recently. Let us know why scientists are saying that women who marry younger boys or older boys have a higher mortality rate than normal women.
What does the research say?
A report by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, published in The Guardian, claims that women who marry younger men have higher mortality rates.
According to a report published in the journal Demography, a man who is seven to nine years older than his wife has an 11 per cent lower mortality rate than a man whose wife is the same age. However, a woman who is seven to nine years older than her husband has a 20 per cent higher mortality rate than a man of the same age.
A research report published on the German news website DW claims that women live longer than men in normal life. The same report states that while the average age of men in Germany in 2022 was 78 years, the average age of women was 82.8 years. As far as America is concerned, the average age of women in America in 2021 was 79 years, while the average age of men was 73 years. A report to this effect was published in the JAMA Journal of Internal Medicine in 2023. This report explained how Corona The pandemic has disproportionately affected American men and reduced their average life expectancy compared to before.
