Customs officials at Kochi airport in Kerala on Monday recovered about 500 grams of gold from a passenger. It is being told that the passenger was going from Doha to Dubai. According to media reports, the passenger had hidden eight gold chains in the soles of his shoes. During investigation, it was found that the total weight of the recovered gold chains is 466.5 grams.
Acting on intelligence, AIU officials were checking the passenger at the exit gate of the airport. AIU officials stopped the suspicious passenger at the exit gate of Cochin International Airport. According to officials, during the search, eight gold chains weighing 466.5 grams were found in the soles of the suspect's shoes. Officials have seized gold worth more than Rs 30 lakh. Further action is being taken after seizing the gold.
Earlier on August 9, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized 1,390.85 grams of gold from a passenger at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). According to the DRI, the gold was being smuggled by a passenger on flight number EK-528 from Dubai to Hyderabad.
DRI officials stopped the suspected passenger at the exit area of the international arrival hall of RGIA. During the search, two large yellow metal rods shaped like batteries were recovered from his left shoe and bag. According to DRI, a yellow metal chain was also recovered from him.
