Indian stock markets closed with a slight decline on the first day of trading

The Indian stock market closed in the green zone today i.e. Monday 12 August. Nifty and Sensex also opened in the red zone in the morning. Before the market closed, profit booking had reduced from the day's highest level. However, the Sensex closed down 57 points at 79,649 points and the Nifty closed down 20 points at 24,347 points.

In today's trading, shares of banking, IT, metal, real estate, consumer durables and oil and gas sector closed with gains. While FMCG, healthcare, energy, infra and auto shares closed with a decline. Midcap and smallcap shares have seen a rise.

Market cap witnessed a decline

Market capitalisation saw a marginal decline in today's trade. The market cap of shares listed on the BSE was Rs. 449.85 lakh crore while in the previous session it closed at Rs. 450.21 lakh crore. Investors have lost Rs. 36,000 crore in a trading session influenced by the Hindenburg Research report.
