New Delhi: At least 20 people have died in rain-related incidents in north and northwest India, an official statement said. Landslides, traffic jams, collapse of houses have been witnessed due to heavy rains.
Water has entered many villages due to overflowing of the dam in Haryana. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has said that the annual Amarnath Yatra has been suspended on the Balta route due to heavy rains in the Shri Amarnathji Yatra area. Earlier, the Amarnath Yatra on the Pahalgam route was suspended on Wednesday. Kashmir Divisional Commissioner VK Bhiduri said that both Pahalgam and Balta routes of Amarnath Yatra have been closed due to heavy rains.
Heavy rains have occurred in North India for the second consecutive day. In the last two days, 16 people have died in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan. Two people died on Saturday and 14 people died today on Sunday.
Heavy rains caused flooding in central, south, southwest and east areas of Delhi. A seven-year-old boy drowned in Sector 20 of Rohini. Gurugram received 70 mm of rain during the day. Three girls died in a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, closing more than 280 roads in the state.
A woman and her seven-year-old son died when the roof of their house collapsed in Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh. According to the Jaipur Meteorological Department, flood-like conditions have arisen in Karoli and Hinduan areas of Rajasthan due to heavy rains. Five people are feared to have drowned in Jaipur's Kanota Dam.
