Mumbai: Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwari's 'Laila Majnu' has a unique record to its name. The film has now grossed more in its second release in six years than it did when it first released in 2018.
When Imtiaz Ali's film was released in 2018, no one knew Tripti. But in the last few years, Tripti's fan base has increased manifold due to blockbusters like 'Animal' apart from highly acclaimed films like 'Bulbul' and 'Kala' on OTT. On the other hand, Avinash Tiwari has also emerged as a top performer in many OTT series.
'Laila Majnu' has benefited from the fame earned by both these actors over the years.
The film was re-released in Kashmir. It was such a hit there that the makers have re-released the film in many cities. It earned 75 lakhs on the first day and on the second day itself it directly crossed 1 crore.
Until the 70s-80s, it was a trend in Bollywood to re-release old hit films after years. However, the re-release system was discontinued after the era of video cassettes began. Now some classic films are released in elite theatres.
