What is the whole incident?
Actually, Punjab Mail (train number 13006) was going from Amritsar to Howrah. After stopping at Bareilly, the train left for Shahjahanpur. Then after travelling about 60 km, the train reached the Bahgul river bridge, when a fire extinguisher fell from a passenger's hand and the fire extinguishing chemical started falling out. Seeing this, the passengers thought that the train has caught fire. Then in the blink of an eye, there was a stampede in the coach. Passengers started running towards the other gate, trampling each other. When all this was happening in the coach, half of the train reached the Bahgul river bridge, some passengers standing near the gate jumped into the river 30 feet above the moving train.
The driver and guard inspected the coach
After a stampede broke out in the coach, a passenger pulled the chain. As soon as the train stopped, the driver and the guard inspected the coach. The train stopped for about 45 minutes on the Bahgul river bridge near Katra station. After this, it came to light that it was just a rumour, the train left for Shahjahanpur. The injured were also brought to Shahjahanpur by the same train. As soon as the train arrived, railway officials took six seriously injured people to the hospital, while others were given first aid.
eyewitnesses gave evidence
The passenger injured in the incident said that as soon as the rumour spread, there was chaos in the coach. The passengers suddenly started running without thinking. In a few seconds, there was a stampede in the entire coach. The passengers started moving forward by pushing each other. During this, many passengers fell down, although the crowd started pressuring them to move forward. Some passengers jumped off the train to save their lives.
Another eyewitness of this incident said that suddenly we heard that the coach has caught fire. At that time the train was on the bridge. The height would be around 30 feet. Everyone started running to the other coach. Many people started jumping from the train. I did not want to jump from the train, but the crowd pushed me and I fell from the bridge. About 20 to 25 people must have fallen or jumped from the train. Later it was known that it was just a rumour.
