Kolkata, August 10 (HS). The horrific incident that took place at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Hospital has shaken the entire city. The police have arrested the accused of raping and murdering a young female doctor at the hospital. His name is Sanjay Rai.

According to sources, the accused has confessed his crime, but there is no remorse on his face. During the investigation, he said that if you want to hang me, then so be it. The arrested accused is a civic volunteer by profession. He was caught on the basis of CCTV footage of the hospital. The police detained him on Friday night and he was formally arrested on Saturday morning.

According to reports, the accused was seen entering the hospital on Friday morning and was there for about 30 to 35 minutes. Investigators believe that since the accused is a civic volunteer, he did not face any problem in entering and exiting the hospital.

According to police sources, the accused entered the hospital for the first time around 11 pm on Thursday. After that, he went out and drank alcohol. Later, in a drunken state, he entered the hospital again at four in the morning. He had Bluetooth headphones around his neck when he entered the hospital, which were not there when he left. Later, broken parts of the headphones were recovered from the spot. Based on these clues and CCTV footage, the police arrested him.

Investigators have also found several pornographic videos in the accused's mobile phone, which shows that he may be mentally unstable. The police are also investigating this aspect thoroughly. Despite this, the accused has not shown any remorse for his act even after his arrest and his attitude still remains aggressive.

The body of the young doctor was recovered from the seminar hall on the fourth floor of the hospital's emergency department on Friday. The preliminary postmortem report found that both her eyes were bleeding. There were injury marks on various parts of her body including her hands, fingers, legs, stomach. Investigators believe that the victim was subjected to extreme brutality before the crime.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded strict punishment for the accused. Junior doctors in various government hospitals of the state have started protesting against the incident. Everyone has the same demand – “We want justice.” The Chief Minister said that the anger of the protesters is justified and she has also proposed to get the incident investigated by any agency.
