East Burdwan, August 10 (HS). A civic volunteer in East Burdwan district has been accused of threatening a female doctor on duty. The police have arrested the accused. The case pertains to Bhatar State General Hospital in East Burdwan district.
According to information received from police sources on Saturday, the name of the accused is Sushant Roy. He is employed as a civic volunteer in Bhatar police station. On Friday, Sushant was on duty at Bhatar State General Hospital. It is alleged that the civic volunteer went to the female doctor in the hospital for treatment in an intoxicated state.
The lady doctor claimed that she made all the arrangements for Sushant's treatment. But suddenly the civic volunteer started misbehaving with her. When she protested, he said to the lady doctor, 'Do you know what happened to the lady doctor in RG Kar?' After this, the lady doctor called other civic volunteers and lodged a complaint about the matter in the police station.
On Saturday, doctors and nurses of Bhatar State General Hospital protested in front of Bhatar police station. They have demanded punishment for the accused civic volunteer. After receiving the news, District Deputy Chief Health Officer Subarna Goswami went to the hospital. She said, 'We demanded immediate arrest of a civic volunteer for his drunken behavior.' Finally the police arrested the accused in the afternoon. He will be produced in court tomorrow on Sunday.
