PM Modi's visit to Wayanad: More than 400 people were killed and hundreds injured in the landslide that occurred in Wayanad, Kerala on July 30. Amid the opposition's demand to declare the Wayanad landslide a national disaster and increase compensation for the affected people, PM Modi arrived today to inspect the site of the incident. PM Modi is visiting Kerala today to inspect the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad and meet the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kerala on Saturday morning and reviewed the relief and rehabilitation efforts after conducting an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas. Apart from this, the PM also visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was also present with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the aerial survey. After this, the Prime Minister also visited the relief camps where the landslide-affected people are currently living and talked to the affected people and learned about their problems. PM Modi is also scheduled to visit the landslide-affected villages on the ground in the afternoon. Here he will take information about the ongoing evacuation operation from the rescue team.
The Prime Minister will then chair a meeting to review the causes of the entire incident and the steps taken by the system since then. The meeting will be briefed in detail about the natural disaster and the ongoing relief efforts. Earlier, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for meeting him after the massive landslide. He also expressed hope that the Prime Minister will declare the Wayanad landslide a 'national disaster' after his visit.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed hope in a press conference during PM Modi's visit to Wayanad that the central government will declare this disaster as a national and severe disaster.
Wayanad Landslide:
On July 30, a massive landslide occurred in Churamala and Mundakkai in Wayanad. The landslide caused massive destruction in the hilly areas. More than 400 people have lost their lives in the landslide, while 150 people are still missing. The CM said that the final number of dead will be confirmed after DNA testing of the bodies.
