Election Commission met political parties
The Election Commission said that we met about 9 political parties. They appreciated the organisation of the Lok Sabha elections and demanded that the assembly elections be held as soon as possible. The parties met the Election Commission and suggested that people should get local government. They also raised the issue of providing equal security to political activities.
Officials said that a delegation of the Election Commission comprising Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The delegation held discussions with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and Jammu and Kashmir Police DGP RR Swain. Election preparations were also reviewed with security agencies in the meeting.
Assembly elections will be held after 10 years
Officials said the meeting with the Election Commission delegation discussed providing security cover to candidates, deployment of security forces and other issues.
After the meeting, the Election Commission team also visited Jammu. It is worth noting that no assembly elections have been held in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 10 years. This is the first assembly election in 10 years. Assembly elections have not been held in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014. Assembly elections were proposed in early 2019 after the then state assembly was dissolved in 2018.
