Mumbai: 332 students of 31 ashram schools in Palghar were affected by food poisoning after eating on Monday night. After this, Palghar District Council President Prakash Nikam personally investigated the matter. In which the students told him that they were getting raw roti, tasteless vegetables and plain rice in the ashram schools. Nikam has also suggested starting a kitchen at the taluka level for the children of this ashramshala.

Under the Dahan Tribal Development Project, 1,700 students of 33 ashram schools in four talukas of Palghar, Dahan, Talasari and Vasai are provided daily breakfast and two meals at a central kitchen in Boisar-Kambalgaon. However, on Monday, 332 students were admitted to various government hospitals in the district due to food poisoning after having dinner.

In this background, President Nikam visited the rural hospital of Kasa on Wednesday and met the students. He also enquired about their health. The district president also visited the Rankol Ashram School and interacted with the students.

While inspecting the central kitchen in Kambalgaon, Nikam also had lunch with the students to experience the taste and quality of the food prepared for them. After this, Nikam said that today's food is good. But the rest of the time, students are given raw roti, watery dal-vegetables, raw rice etc.

Due to this, 332 students of 31 ashram schools were affected by food poisoning and were admitted to various hospitals in the district after consuming such poor quality food. Most of the 332 students are now fine. However, Congress district president Prafulla Patil has demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.
