Vadodara: A prayer meeting was organized today at Kabir Farm in Vadodara for the late former cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad. In which many legends of the cricket world were present to pay tribute to the late Anshuman Gaekwad.
Former Indian cricket team coach and player Anshuman Gaikwad was suffering from blood cancer for a long time. He died at the age of 71 during treatment at a private hospital in Vadodara. Today a morning meeting of late Anshuman Gaikwad was organized at Kabir Farm in Sevasi.
Everyone including Baroda Cricket, Virat Kohli's coach, former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jai Shah, former cricketers Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Kiran More, Nayan Mongia, Pathan's father Mehboob Khan will pay tribute to him. In this prayer meeting, many dignitaries including association officials, Ranji cricketers paid tribute to the family of late Anshuman Gaikwad. Apart from this, Gujarat State Police Chief DG Vikas Sahay, Vadodara Police Commissioner Narsingh Tomar also came to pay tribute to the prayer meeting of late Anshuman Gaikwad.
Maharaja Samarji Singh Gaekwad of Vadodara also came to pay tribute to the late Anshuman Gaekwad. He said, 'I used to play cricket with Anshuman Gaekwad. He was our captain, we are very sad to lose the foundation of the building of Vadodara cricket.'
Anshuman Gaekwad was also the head coach of the Indian cricket team during 1997-99. In June 2018, Anshuman Gaekwad was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the BCCI. Anshuman Gaekwad played 206 matches during his career, in which he scored more than 12 thousand runs. Kapil Dev has announced to donate his pension amount for the treatment of Anshuman Gaekwad, who is suffering from blood cancer. Rs 1 crore was also provided by the BCCI for the treatment of Anshuman Gaekwad.
