Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced several schemes for the youth in the 2024 budget. One of these schemes was to provide internship opportunities to the youth. The government has become active for this scheme and work is going on fast on it.
For this, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has started talks with industries to start a scheme under Corporate Social Responsibility. According to sources, the government has prepared a list of more than 500 companies for this scheme. The ministry has discussed with about 20 companies. Preparations are being made to discuss with other companies as well. After discussions with the companies, the ministry will prepare a detailed action plan for this scheme. About Rs 60 thousand crore is estimated to be spent on this ambitious scheme. Out of which Rs 30 thousand crore will be given by the state governments, while the remaining amount will be given by the companies through CSR.
What is in the plan, how will it work?
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs will create resources for industrial skill training in collaboration with companies. Under the scheme, trainees will get an allowance of Rs 5,000 per month and a one-time assistance of about Rs 6,000. Companies will meet the cost of training the trainees through their CSR activities. Participation of companies in this scheme is at their discretion. The internship will be offered by the supplier or value chain partner of the top 500 company. 90 per cent of the internship allowance will be given by the government, the remaining 10 per cent will be provided by the companies and the training cost will be borne by the company itself.
How can youth benefit from internships?
The youth who have completed full-time courses can take advantage of the internship program. According to the company, the profile of the youth will be prepared. Apart from this, internship will be given on the basis of merit. Students who have studied from IIT, IIM, IISER will not get the benefit of this scheme.
