Heavy rains in several parts of Himachal Pradesh triggered landslides and closed over 100 roads in the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange alert' for moderate to heavy rain, thunder and lightning at various places in the state on August 10. The Meteorological Department has also warned of mild to moderate flooding in various parts of Kangra, Sirmaur, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Solan and Mandi districts in the next 24 hours.
Risk of landslides and flash floods
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, a total of 109 roads are closed, including 37 in Mandi, 29 in Shimla, 26 in Kullu, six in Kangra, four each in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, two in Sirmaur and one in Hamirpur. The intensity and impact area of monsoon activity is expected to increase during the next five to six days. The Meteorological Department has also warned about the possibility of landslides and flash floods at some places. The department has also predicted damage to gardens, crops, weak structures and kutcha houses due to strong winds and flooding in low-lying areas.

9 bodies were recovered from Rajbhan village in Mandi
Officials said nine bodies were recovered from Rajbhan village in Mandi, three bodies were recovered from Nirmand and Bagipul in Kullu district and 10 bodies were recovered from Samej and areas around Dhadkol, Brow and Sunni dams in Shimla district. Police said six of the total 22 bodies were recovered on Wednesday. Four of them were found in Shimla and two in Kullu. So far 12 bodies have been identified and DNA samples are being taken to identify the remaining bodies. According to officials, search operation is going on in an area of about 85 km.
Search operation is going on for 7 days
State Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi on Wednesday said there was little chance of finding more bodies as search operations had already been launched in the flooded area. The hopes of the families of nearly 30 missing people started fading as the search and rescue operation took seven days on Wednesday amid incessant rains. Commenting on the ongoing operation in Samaj village, NDRF Assistant Commanding Officer Karam Singh said, “It is raining, but the joint search and rescue operation is going on.” Singh said, “The water level in the Sutlej river is rising and landslides are also occurring at many places. JCBs and other machines are being used to clear the roads. Our soldiers are skilled and are crossing the river with the help of ropes and searching at places where the missing people are likely to be found.
