Kolkata, August 07 (HS). Customs department and Border Security Force (BSF) officials have been put on high alert in view of the possibility of illegal migration attempts through the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal amid the ongoing crisis in neighboring country Bangladesh. The department has already been given the names of some Bangladeshi residents who may make such illegal migration attempts. This list has also been shared with BSF battalions deployed at various border posts in the state.
According to sources, on Tuesday evening, Enamul Haque Sohail and Sanjida Zeenat Ilahi, residents of Rangpur, Bangladesh, were caught trying to enter Indian territory illegally along with their child. They had fake Aadhaar and PAN cards. During interrogation, they admitted that they had prepared these fake Indian identity cards to get cheap treatment for their child in Indian hospitals. The couple was sent back to Bangladesh after the fake Indian documents were confiscated.
BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary visited various border outposts in the state and monitored the enhanced security arrangements there. He stressed on completely sealing the border and ensuring complete security to prevent any attempt of illegal entry by taking advantage of the Bangladesh crisis. He especially emphasized on enhancing security arrangements at the floating border outposts built in the river and deployment of additional security personnel at sensitive border points where the chances of illegal entry are high.
