New Delhi, March 1 (HS). NITI Aayog member Dr. VK Paul said that it is very important to create awareness among the people towards the solution of diseases in children right from birth. National Child Health Program is the guarantee of children's health.
Dr. VK Paul, while addressing the occasion of National Birth Defect Awareness Month 2024 on Friday, said that Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is an ambitious scheme under which along with the existing National Child Health Program, it can also be helpful in child health.
He said that the theme of this National Birth Defects Awareness Month 2024 is “Breaking Barriers: Inclusive Support for Children with Birth Defects”. The birth defects awareness campaign will focus on awareness regarding prevention, early detection and timely management.
On this occasion, Dr. Paul praised the National Child Health Programme, which is proving to be a catalyst in child health. He said, '160 crore children have been screened under the program and this is a guarantee of child health. Dr Paul said there is a need to focus on birth defects to reduce child mortality, although the proportion of deaths due to birth defects is low compared to deaths due to malaria, pneumonia and other diseases. He said, our priority under the National Child Health Program is to achieve holistic health for children and this National Birth Defects Awareness Month 2024 campaign will be a catalyst in raising awareness towards this objective. Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra was also present on this occasion.
