Kolkata, 7 August (HS). Accidents caused by Totos running unbridled on the roads of West Bengal are becoming a matter of concern. Therefore, now the state transport department is preparing to rein them in. A senior official of the department gave information about this on Wednesday. He said that to prevent road accidents, the West Bengal government is planning to control the increasing number of Toto vehicles. For this, the Transport Department has been instructed to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given clear instructions to the police and transport department officials in this regard. She has discussed the abnormal increase of Toto vehicles in the state with Transport Minister Snehasish Chakraborty. The Chief Minister has clearly said that a special guideline should be prepared to bring Toto vehicles under control, but this should not affect anyone's employment situation.

The Chief Minister has proposed to bring this three-wheeler under one discipline.

In fact, the increasing number of Toto vehicles without any registration and without the bindings of traffic laws has become a big problem for the administration. The excess of Toto vehicles on the roads is not only increasing traffic jams but also increasing accidents. Already, the operation of Toto vehicles has been banned on state and national roads, but this has not been able to control it completely. Common people complain that at many places the number of Toto vehicles is more than the number of passengers. These vehicles have neither permit, nor registration nor tax. The government does not get any income from this, while the number of accidents is increasing. Now the Transport Department will prepare a special guideline to bring this three-wheeler under control.
