Cycling expedition from Siachen to Indira Point started on the 75th anniversary of the Territorial Army

Leh, August 6 (HS). To commemorate the platinum jubilee year of the Territorial Army, a challenging bicycle expedition was started from Siachen Base Camp to Indira Point on Tuesday.

The Territorial Army units have planted about 9 crore saplings on about 92 thousand hectares of land across the country to overcome the adverse effects of global warming. On the Platinum Jubilee year, the Territorial Army is conducting the first cycle expedition from Siachen Glacier to Indira Point. The expedition aims to cover a distance of about 5,500 km through land, air and sea in two phases i.e. mainland phase and island phase.

The expedition comprising Territorial Army personnel was flagged off from Siachen Base Camp on 30 July. The expedition reached Leh on 02 August. General Officer Commanding, 72 Sub Area interacted with the team members on 04 August. The expedition will be conducted across the country till Chennai from where the team will travel to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. After travelling southwards from the Nicobar Islands, the expedition will culminate at Indira Point where the tricolour will be hoisted underwater at the southernmost tip of India.

Apart from cycling, the expedition team will also undergo sailing and scuba diving activities as part of the expedition. Public awareness activities addressing issues of national integration, environmental consciousness, know your army, etc. will also be organised.
