New Delhi: Dalits have called for a Bharat Bandh on August 21 against the Supreme Court's decision on reservation. From Mayawati, Chandrashekhar to Chirag Paswan, everyone has opposed it. NDA's allies are also against it. Dalit organizations and leaders believe that the Supreme Court's decision is discriminatory. The Supreme Court had given the states the right to create sub-quotas in the SC-ST quota
In a 4-3 decision, the seven-judge Constitution bench said that the creamy layer should also be recognised in SC and ST. The creamy layer should also be recognised in this category. People coming under the creamy layer in this category should not get benefits. Instead, the poor of the same society should be given priority. This decision of the Supreme Court has been welcomed by a section, but there is also resentment against it in a large part of the Dalit society.
Earlier, Dalits had organized a Bharat Bandh on 2 April 2018 against a decision of the Supreme Court, this bandh was quite successful. This bandh was organized after the Supreme Court made some changes in the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in its decision. Violence took place at many places, many lives were lost. After this ban, the government amended the Constitution and overturned the changes made by the Supreme Court in the SC-ST Act.
BSP President Mayawati said that this is an attempt to end reservation. Regarding quota in quota, the government said that this will enable the government to give quota to any caste as per its wish and this will also serve their political interests. This decision is not correct. She also opposed the Supreme Court's decision on creamy layer. She said that it is true that 10 percent of Dalits have money, they have also reached high positions, but the benefit of reservation cannot be snatched from their children. The reason is that even today people with racist thinking have not changed their thinking.
