Weather update: Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand, a total of 2400 roads and 25 bridges have been affected so far in the monsoon season. Due to this, the state government has suffered a loss of more than Rs 100 crore. Five bridges have been completely damaged, for the construction of which a budget of Rs 25 crore has been sought.
Chief Engineer of Public Works Department DK Yadav said that so far the roads of the state have suffered damages worth more than Rs 100 crore. He said that after the monsoon season ends, a report will be prepared and sent to the government.
Last year, the roads and bridges in the state suffered damages worth more than Rs 450 crore due to rain. Some of this amount was received as disaster relief from the central government, but the government has to repair the rest of the roads on its own. Budget Public Works Department officials said that every year a large number of roads are affected due to rain. This also affects new construction projects.
The process of roads getting closed due to rain in the state is not stopping. Due to this, life in the hilly areas has been badly affected. According to the report released by the State Disaster Management and Reduction Center, a total of 169 roads are closed due to rain in the state. Continuous rain is creating obstacles in opening the closed roads.
