In view of the dangers present in coaching centres and the frequent accidents, the Supreme Court has given a major order to make guidelines for safety. The court has described Delhi's coaching centres as houses of death. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner Coaching Centre Federation. Three students died due to water logging in the basement library of Rau IAS Coaching Centre in Delhi.
On Monday, in the Supreme Court, Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan called Delhi's coaching centers as rooms of death. The bench said that we are concerned about the safety of coaching centers. Coaching centers are playing with the lives of children. The court said that it is our opinion that if coaching centers do not meet the safety standards, then they should be allowed to start studies in online mode. At present, we are not doing this. The court has issued notice to the Center, Delhi Government and MCD and sought information related to security.
The bench imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the president and secretary of the Coaching Center Federation for challenging the Delhi High Court order. After the Mukherjee Nagar coaching incident, the High Court had ordered the closure of those coaching centers which do not have fire NOC. Coaching Federation NASNU had challenged this in the Supreme Court.
