Lucknow, 05 August (HS). Muslim religious leaders and leaders of Uttar Pradesh have raised their voice against the proposed Wakf Board Ordinance of the Central Government. Some people like the Wakf Board Ordinance very much while some people have strong objections to this ordinance.
Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Haj Committee and former Minister of State Mohsin Raza said that the ordinance on Waqf Board is welcome. Our government is bringing this ordinance. With its coming, the cases of Waqf will first come to the government, then they can go somewhere else. Mohsin Raza said that there are lakhs of Waqf properties. There are many cases, which should first come to the government. Waqf properties which have come under the control of a few people should be taken out. Those whose properties have been registered in Waqf illegally should also be freed from it.
The chairman said that the Waqf Boards have misused the powers given to them. They take away someone's property. They make someone a Muttawali. The Waqf Board has acted arbitrarily. The Waqf Board is not a court. Another Waqf Tribunal has been created. When someone wants to go for justice, he has to first go to the tribunal. We will also have to increase the scope of the Waqf Tribunal.
Mohsin Raza said that Waqf was created for the upliftment of the downtrodden Muslims, but it has been misused since 1947. I claim that those who support Waqf will not be able to identify even one Muslim who has benefited from Waqf. Our government takes decisions in public interest and is soon bringing an ordinance on Waqf Board.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali, head of Islamic Center of India and Muslim religious leader, said that our elders have donated their property for Waqf. There is also an Islamic law related to this, in which once the land is given to Waqf, neither it can be sold nor can anyone else buy it. In our country, 60% of Waqf properties have mosques, dargahs and graveyards built on them.
The Muslim religious leader has said that the Central Government should not bring the Waqf Ordinance. There is no need for change in the case of Waqf Board. Apart from this, the government should insist on providing the rent of the government work plan on the Waqf property to the Waqf on time. The Act 1995 made regarding Waqf has already been amended in 2013, so there is no need for another amendment or change.
Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi, MP from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh and leader of Samajwadi Party, has called the Waqf Board Ordinance a restrictive ordinance. He alleged that the intention of the central government is not right.
MP Nadvi has demanded that the central government should protect the rights of the citizens. If the government's intentions are good at present, then it should hold a meeting of all the parties. A meeting of prominent people associated with Waqf should be held. The central government should not harm the Ganga-Jamuni culture of India in any way.
