Novak Djokovic won his first medal: The unfulfilled dream of great tennis player Novak Djokovic has come true. He has won the Olympic gold medal for the first time in his career. Djokovic created history on Sunday by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles final at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 37-year-old Serbian player defeated Alcaraz 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2). Djokovic became the oldest player to win gold in Olympic tennis since 1988.

Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slams, has been yearning for a medal at the Olympics for a long time. He entered the Olympic final for the first time by defeating Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Top seed Djokovic has lost the semi-finals in the last three Olympics. Djokovic lost in the Olympic final to Rafael Nadal in Beijing (2008), Andy Murray in London (2012) and Alexander Zvarech in Tokyo (2021). He won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics. Djokovic also avenged Alcaraz at Wimbledon. The Wimbledon final was played between Djokovic and Alcaraz in which the Serbian star lost.

Djokovic has become the fifth tennis player to win a Career Golden Slam. The term Career Gold Slam is used for players who have won all four Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold in history. Before Djokovic, Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams had achieved this feat. German legend Steffi became the first player to enter the Golden Slam. She won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics.
