Khunti, August 4 (HS). Mathura Prasad Mahto, Chairman of Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha's Special Committee (Questions and Attention), reached Khunti on a one-day visit on Sunday. Under his chairmanship, a meeting was held with the officials of all the concerned departments in the auditorium of the Parishad Bhawan and the development plans were reviewed. Mahto took information from the departmental officials on the basis of the updated progress report of the works and schemes run by the departments and gave instructions.
Information was taken from the Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department about household connections and other ongoing works under the Har Ghar Nal Yojana. The Chairman directed to complete the work within the stipulated time as per the instructions of the department. Information was taken about JUSCO damaging the roads at various places while laying the pipeline. The Chairman directed the JUSCO representative to get all the roads repaired after laying the pipeline. He said that in view of the rainy season, the common people should not face any problem. Therefore, it is important to repair the roads as soon as possible after laying the pipeline. Information was also taken about the plan to install 10 hand pumps in every Panchayat.
The Executive Engineer informed that 60 percent work has been completed under the scheme. In view of the rainy season, instructions have been received from the department to keep the scheme closed for some time. After the rainy season, instructions were given to complete the remaining 40 percent work. While reviewing the Agriculture Department, information was taken from the District Agriculture Officer regarding the plantation work done so far. Taking information regarding the seeds provided by the government, it was asked to ensure 100 percent seed distribution among farmers. Information regarding the availability of vegetable seeds was taken from the Horticulture Department.
The Chairman said that these days dragon fruit and strawberry are also being cultivated in large quantities in Khunti district. Therefore, motivate farmers to cultivate vegetables, fruits and flowers which give good profits. Special emphasis should be given on the other crops in which farmers can earn good profits apart from paddy. While reviewing the Land Conservation Department, information was taken about pond renovation. The District Land Conservation Officer informed that the work of renovation of 37 ponds is to be done in the district, regarding which Mahato asked to complete the work as per the departmental instructions.
Deputy Development Commissioner, Project Director ITDA and officials of all departments etc were present in the meeting.
