Mamata Banerjee took steps to bring back migrant workers stranded in Wayanad to Bengal

Kolkata, August 03 (HS). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is taking important steps to bring back the migrant workers of the state stranded in the landslide-affected Wayanad district of Kerala. The Trinamool Congress said on Saturday that the state government is ensuring that the stranded workers get all the necessary assistance.

The Trinamool Congress wrote in a post on social media platform X, “Didi is with everyone, with everyone”. The post said the state government is ensuring that migrant workers stranded in landslide-hit Wayanad, Kerala get all necessary help.

The Trinamool Congress said that our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is leading the efforts to bring them back safely to Bengal. In this hour of their need, we stand united and strong.

On Friday, state Labour Minister Malay Ghatak informed the Assembly that 242 migrant workers from the state were stranded in Wayanad district. He said all the workers were safe.

Ghatak said that workers from Bengal are highly skilled, so they are always in demand in the southern states. If the workers want to return from the landslide-affected area, the state administration will arrange for their transportation and take care of their welfare.

It is noteworthy that the death toll in the landslide in Wayanad has risen to 218, which includes 90 women and 30 children. Out of the 218 bodies recovered from the landslide affected areas, 152 have been identified by their relatives.
