Jammu, August 3 (HS). A large section of the society is upset with the opening of liquor shops in the temple city of Jammu and they also oppose it in a hushed voice but their voices are not being heard anywhere. Former Chairman of Jammu Municipal Corporation Satish Sharma said this while talking to journalists after holding a meeting with various sections of the society in his office on Saturday. Satish said that Jammu was known as the city of temples but after 2019, the administration made Jammu a city of liquor shops by distributing licenses to hundreds of liquor shops.
He said that we demand from the LG administration that the timing of liquor shops be changed and an order should be issued to allow the shops to open from 2 pm to 9 pm. He said that if the government accepts our suggestion, then its direct benefit will be received by those suffering women in whose houses there are daily fights over alcohol. He said that some people spend their entire day's earnings due to alcohol addiction and their entire family remains troubled.
He said that there is a liquor shop at every square in Jammu. A large section of the society leaves their homes for work in the morning. This is also the time for children to go to school and the place where there is a liquor shop has a very bad influence on the people. He said that if the government changes the time of opening liquor shops in Jammu, then crime can be curbed to a great extent.
