Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Kerala's hilly district Wayanad. Several incidents of landslides have been reported in Wayanad. More than 300 people have lost their lives in this natural disaster so far. Hundreds of people are still missing. Rescue of bodies or possible survivors buried under the debris of the landslide is still going on.
Rescue teams in the affected areas are now using advanced technical equipment radar and dog squad teams. On Saturday, Lt Col Mohanlal along with his 122 Infantry Battalion and TA Madras visited the Wayanad landslide area to boost the morale of all the personnel involved in the rescue operation.
The old lady donated 10 thousand rupees to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund
After the Wayanad landslide disaster, businessmen, celebrities and organizations are engaged in donating lakhs of rupees to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. Meanwhile, an elderly woman running a tea shop has also come forward to help the victims. Subaida, a resident of Pallithottam in Kollam district, runs a small tea shop to support herself and her husband. She has donated Rs 10,000 to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF).
People trapped in the debris are being searched with the help of drone images
As the search operation gained momentum after the Army completed the construction of a 190-foot-long 'Bailey Bridge', rescue teams searched the debris using GPS coordinates and drone images, including the last location obtained from mobile phones of people who lived in the landslide. People trapped in the area were searched for.
The radar detected a blue signal
Rescue workers conducting a search operation with radar system in the landslide-affected village of Wayanad have found signs of human or animal breathing. An official involved in the operation said that while searching a house in the badly affected Mundakkai village, a blue signal was found on the radar. After this, a rescue operation was carried out at that place. However, the rescue team did not find anything there.
272 people were injured in this incident
Three days after the landslide in Mundakkai area of Wayanad district, rescue workers on Friday found four members of a family safe in an area near Padavetti Kunnu. The death toll in landslide incidents is rising rapidly. 273 people have been injured in this natural disaster.
218 people are still missing
Officials said the extent of loss of life and property in Wayanad would be known only after rescue workers use heavy machinery to clear houses covered with debris and wooden logs. Kerala Public Works Minister PA Mohammed Riyas said 218 people were still missing as per district administrative records after checking Aadhaar documents, passenger details, questioning ASHA workers and speaking to people at relief camps and hospitals.
