Kerala Wayanad Landslide Update: On the fifth day of the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, the administration has admitted that it has failed to take strict measures in relief and rescue operations. The administration said that post-mortem has been done on 341 bodies recovered from the landslide site, out of which 146 have been identified.
Only body parts of 134 people have been recovered. The bodies of those who have been identified have been handed over to their families. While the last rites of 74 unidentified bodies will be performed today.
2,597 people from 707 families have been housed in 17 relief camps in Meppadi. 91 camps have been set up in the area, which accommodate more than 10,000 people. Four landslides occurred in Wayanad, Kerala, between 2 am and 4 am on July 29-30. Four villages were swept away.
Army General Officer Commanding Major General VT Mathew said that the rescue operation in Mundakai, Churalmala, Attamala and Nulapuzha villages has been completed. Now only the search for bodies is being carried out.
There is an alert of heavy rain in Kerala today i.e. on Saturday. Out of these, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts are on yellow alert.
US President Joe Biden also expressed grief over the accident late Thursday night. He said that we are with India in this difficult time. We appreciate the people involved in the rescue. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, who reached Wayanad on Thursday, will also meet the victims here today.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi reached Wayanad on August 1. Both of them talked to the affected people. Rahul said- Today I am feeling the same way as I was feeling at the time of my father's death. Rahul Gandhi said- Congress party will build more than 100 houses here. Rahul had won the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad and Rae Bareli. He had left the Wayanad seat. Now Priyanka is going to contest from Wayanad.
