Ahmedabad: Yesterday, Assistant TDO of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Harshad Bhojak and his colleague Ashish Patel were caught red handed by ACB while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 lakhs. After which both the accused were produced in the court today and their remand till August 5 i.e. for the next 3 days has been approved.
In fact, the shops and houses on the complainant's ancestral land in Gomtipur were confiscated and demolished by the AMC. However, the complainant needed a TDR certificate to redevelop the site. So he met Government Approval Engineer Ashish Patel and Assistant TDO Harshad Bhojak, who demanded a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for the TDR certificate. Eventually, the deal was settled for Rs 20 lakh at Razzaq's end.
However, since the complainant did not want to pay the amount, he complained to the ACB. Based on which the ACB laid a trap and caught the ATDO and the engineer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 lakh.
After which the ACB searched the house of Assistant TDO in Naranpura late night. From where Rs. 73 lakh in cash and gold biscuits worth Rs. 4.50 lakh were seized.
Today both the accused were produced in the court by ACB. Where does the public prosecutor have to account for the money recovered from the accused and which other officials are involved in this? Since the custody of the accused is necessary to get answers to all those questions, a 5-day remand was sought. However, the court has approved a 3-day remand of both the accused. Meanwhile, Harshad Bhojak's bank account and bank locker will also be investigated.
