Wayanad Landslide: The death toll in the Wayanad landslide rose to 319 on Friday. Officials said 220 people are still missing. Rescue operations continued on the fourth day of Kerala's worst natural disaster so far. A rescue team of more than a thousand members formed by various forces and locals, divided into nine groups, is trying to help people and find the missing.
The areas most affected by the landslide are Churamala, Vellarimala, Mundakal and Punchirimadome. Now connectivity between Churamala and Mundakal has been restored with the construction of a 190 feet high Bailey bridge. Search dogs have also been deployed. The rescue teams are also equipped with heavy mud removal equipment.
An officer leading the operation said that in one of the affected areas where they were going, some houses were buried. The officer said, “There are about 10 houses where we are reaching soon and according to what we are being told, there may be some people there, possibly even alive. So far 9,328 people have been safely evacuated to 91 relief camps.
