New Delhi, 01 August (HS). While granting bail to the accused of sending obscene messages to a woman, the Delhi High Court has ordered him to do community service in a hospital, orphanage and old age home for three months. Justice Subramaniam Prasad's bench said that the accused will have to repent for his crime.

The court directed the accused to do community service in an old age home, Loknayak Jaiprakash Hospital and an orphanage between 09 September and 30 November. Apart from this, the court directed the accused to plant 50 trees in his area and take care of them. While imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused, the court said that he must realize that he should not take the court lightly. He cannot escape after committing a crime. The court has directed to deposit the fine amount in the Armed Forces War Casualty Welfare Fund within four weeks.

The case is of 2014. A woman had complained to the police against the accused accusing him of sending obscene messages. On the basis of the woman's complaint, the police had registered an FIR under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act. The accused had filed a petition in the High Court demanding the cancellation of the FIR registered against him. The lawyer appearing on behalf of the accused told the court that a settlement has been reached between the complainant woman and the accused in April. The woman told the High Court that she has reached a settlement with the accused of her own free will without any pressure and she does not want to pursue this matter further.
