Nainital, August 01 (HS). After hearing the application filed for permission for two days for more than 200 people to attend the Butter Festival in Bugyals on the first Ekadashi of Bhadrapada, the High Court has fixed the date for next week for the next hearing of the case.
Hundreds of acres of velvety grasslands spread in the high Himalayan regions of the state, which are known as Bugyal and other names in the regional language, were heard in the High Court earlier and issued several directions to the state government in 2018 to protect them from human activities. In its order, the court had banned the movement of more than 200 people in the Bugyals, including staying there at night. The court had also banned other commercial activities including construction of permanent structures.
In this case, the organization that organizes the Butter Festival filed a petition in the court saying that on the orders of the High Court, the movement of more than 200 people at a time in the Bugyals of the state has been prohibited.
Butter festival is to be held in Bugyals on the first Ekadashi of Bhadrapada. Therefore, permission for more than 200 people to attend the festival should be given only for two days. After hearing the parties in this case, the division bench of the High Court fixed the date for the next hearing of the case next week.
