District Magistrate took information regarding the damage caused by heavy rains in various parts

Uttarkashi, 01 August (HS). District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht reached the District Emergency Operation Center on Thursday and took information from all the sub-district magistrates and other concerned officials regarding the damage caused by heavy rains in various parts of the district.

On this occasion, while conducting a review meeting with the officials through video conferencing, the District Magistrate said that all the concerned departments and officers should remain constantly alert and ready and ensure prompt response as soon as any incident is reported. Instructing the Deputy District Magistrates to provide better leadership in disaster management work in their respective areas, he said that immediate distribution of personal relief should be ensured on the spot in the disaster affected areas.

The District Magistrate, while taking information about the situation of Kunsi, Singot, Nakuri Gad, Barsaali, Dhauntari, Siri, Bhansadi, Syalna, Baun, Panjiala, Juguldi, Kalich and Barkot etc. areas due to heavy rains, directed to distribute relief amount immediately to the affected people of these areas and to repair and protect the damaged roads, bridges and canals. Apart from these areas, he has asked the Sub-District Magistrates and the officers of the concerned departments to submit a report within two days regarding the restoration and protection works of the departmental assets damaged by heavy rains in Gangotri-Yamunotri, Janakichatti and Gadwalgad and distribution of relief to the affected people. The District Magistrate has also instructed that the estimate for the repair and reconstruction of the damaged public assets should be submitted without delay.

In the meeting, Deputy District Magistrate Purola Devanand Sharma said that more than 60 sheep have been reported dead due to a tree falling in the forest of Kalich village of Mori area due to heavy rains. A relief team including Tehsildar Mori and a veterinary doctor has gone to the spot. In this incident, two sheep herders and another person were also reported to have received minor injuries and now all three persons are said to be normal.

Deputy District Magistrate Dunda Nawazish Khaliq said that he himself went to the spot last night with SDRF on receiving information about waterlogging in the roads due to heavy rains in Baun village. Agricultural land has been eroded due to rising water level of the ghats and debris in villages like Baun, Nakuri, Singot, Dhauntari etc. due to excessive rain. A bridge and culvert have also been reported to be damaged in this area. In Dhauntari area also the Naib Tehsildar was present on the spot at night. He said that today the Tehsildar Dunda is visiting Baun, Panjiyala, Singot and Dhauntari areas and taking stock of the damage.

Giving information about the situation of Barkot tehsil area including Yamunotri Dham in Deputy District Magistrate Barkot Mukesh Chandra Ramola said that due to debris after rain, the Yamunotri highway was closed for some time at one or two places, which was soon opened for traffic. There is information of some cattle being killed in the forest area of ​​​​Bhansaadi village. Revenue sub-inspector has been sent to the spot.

In the meeting, Sub-District Magistrate Bhatwadi Brijesh Tiwari said that due to heavy rain last night, traffic on Gangotri Highway was completely stopped and the Kanwariyas were stopped at safe places. The road closed in Bishanpur due to debris was opened for traffic around 10.30 am and safe departure of all the Kanwariyas returning after collecting water from Gangotri Dham was ensured.
