Kolkata, 27 July (HS). Four people have been arrested in connection with the theft at the famous Namani Plywood Private Limited on Andul Road in Hashkhali. Its owner Suresh Agarwal filed a complaint of theft of Rs 9 lakh from his office on 27 July 2024. Two of his workers and a driver Raghunath Thakur were named in this theft case. The police immediately arrested all three accused and sent them to 14 days of police custody.
During the investigation, scrutiny of CCTV footage and statements of the arrested accused revealed that another driver of the company, Bapi Halder, who was absent for a few days, was seen roaming around with lock-breaking tools. Based on the statement of Raghunath Thakur, Bapi Halder (41), was arrested.
During intensive interrogation, Bapi Halder confessed his crime and Rs 7.70 lakh was recovered at his place. He also told that while stealing, he had left some bundles because he had heard some sound. The other accused also confirmed that before the police arrived on July 27, the company manager Manish Yadav had picked up the bundles of Rs 500 notes.
The complainant was asked to produce Manish Yadav with the remaining amount. Manish Yadav apologised and admitted that he had picked up the remaining amount from the crime scene.
