Cloud burst at three places in Himachal Pradesh
Cloudburst has occurred at three places in Himachal Pradesh, a hilly state in the north of the country. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is constantly trying to control the situation. Incidents of cloudburst were reported in Samakh Khud (drain) of Rampur subdivision of Shimla, Malana of Kullu and Rajman village near Thaltukhod of Mandi district. Many houses and shops have been washed away in this disaster. So far two people have died in Himachal, while 50 people are missing.
The Chief Minister left for Rampur from Shimla
After the massive destruction in Rampur, Chief Minister Sukhu is reaching Shimla. At present, relief and rescue operations are going on wherever cloudburst incidents have occurred. NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and police personnel are engaged in evacuating people safely. The entire administration is present on the spot to help the people. It is believed that the death toll may increase. The Chief Minister has asked the army to remain alert. An orange alert for rain has also been issued in Himachal Pradesh.
Home Minister and Health Minister spoke to CM Sukhu
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to assess the situation after the cloudburst. He assured the Chief Minister of central assistance and support to the National Disaster Response Force. Health Minister JP Nadda has also spoken to Chief Minister Sukhu. He has assured all possible help from the government. BJP President Nadda spoke to Jairam Thakur and the state president and directed all the workers to engage in relief work.
How much damage was caused in Himachal Pradesh?
The cloud burst late at night. Due to which there has been a lot of damage. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that four vehicle bridges and a foot bridge were washed away due to the cloud burst. The apple crop has also been destroyed. Many houses have collapsed and road connectivity has been disrupted in Thaltukhod area of Padhar in Mandi district.
The Mandi district administration has sought help from the Indian Air Force and the NDRF. The Chandigarh-Manali national highway has been damaged at several places due to the overflowing of the Beas river. There are reports of damage to houses in Bhagipul in Kullu and an alert has been issued in Bhuntar area of Kullu due to flooding in the Parvati river and Malana.
Due to the landslide, the Manali-Chandigarh National Highway has collapsed at several places and the water of the Beas river has entered many houses in Pandoh of Mandi. There are also reports of many people missing and houses and shops collapsing in the area.
Instructions to officials to help the people: CM Dhami
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting with officials and reviewed the status of rescue and relief operations in areas affected by heavy rains at the state emergency center. Dhami said, “I have instructed officials to help those affected by heavy rains. Also, people affected by the overflowing of rivers and streams should be shifted to safer places. I have asked everyone to remain alert.”
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “I will conduct aerial and ground inspection of the disaster-affected areas of Rudraprayag and Tihri Garhwal districts. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing in the disaster-affected areas. People are stranded. These areas will be evacuated and we are constantly trying to make them safe.
Advice to postpone Kedarnath Yatra
Rudraprayag district administration has issued an advisory for the pilgrims who have reached Rudraprayag for Kedarnath Darshan, in which they have been asked to stay safe wherever they are and postpone their Kedarnath Dham Yatra. The advisory states that the condition of the motor road and footpath beyond Sonprayag is not very good at the moment. Due to heavy rain last night, 20-25 meters of road was washed away in Bhimbali on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath footpath and large stones fell from the hill and came on the road.
More than 200 people died in Wayanad
More than 200 people have died in the landslide disaster in Wayanad. According to the Indian Express, at least 277 people have died and more than 200 have been injured. The death toll is expected to rise as the search for victims continues. Rescue workers are continuing search and rescue operations even in adverse conditions, but many people are still missing. Rescue workers are searching for people in destroyed houses and buildings, but they are facing difficulties due to debris all around.
Bailey bridge is being prepared
To speed up rescue operations, a 190-foot-long Bailey bridge is being built to connect the worst-affected areas of Mundakkai and Churalmala. The bridge is expected to be ready by Thursday. The construction of the bridge is progressing rapidly, a Defence Department public relations officer said. A team of the Madras Engineers Group is rapidly constructing a bridge at Churalmala.
Delhi is in trouble due to rain
The effect of the rain that happened in Delhi on Wednesday was seen till Thursday. There is water everywhere. People going to work in the morning had to face heavy traffic jam from ITO to Kalindi Kunj. Traffic got jammed in major areas and the roads started looking like rivers, due to which people were stranded here and there. There are reports of walls falling at many places due to rain on Wednesday. In Daryaganj, the wall of a school fell on a car parked there. No one was injured in the accident.
Where and how much damage and loss of life occurred in Delhi?
A 22-year-old woman and her child died due to drowning in Ghazipur. According to Ghazipur police, Tanuja and her three-year-old son Priyansh had gone out to buy household items from the weekly market, when due to waterlogging, they slipped and drowned in the drain. The incident took place near Khoda Colony area, where sewerage construction work was going on on the roadside.
Due to heavy rains, a building collapsed near Robin Cinema in Sabzi Mandi area of north Delhi, injuring one person. In another incident, a woman was injured when a wall collapsed in Vasant Kunj in south-west Delhi.
Shoes were seen floating on waterlogged roads in Chhattarpur area of south Delhi as vehicles moved on them. Chaos was also witnessed in Pragati Maidan tunnel due to waterlogging. The ITO crossing, Dhaula Kuan area and the road leading to the airport were flooded, causing traffic jams. Rainwater entered the Press Club of India, where people were seen sitting in knee-deep water in purported photographs shared online.
