Testing the Purity of Gold : Gold is the most precious metal nowadays, it is considered a symbol of luxury. This is why people invest in gold when they become financially rich. However, determining the purity of gold is challenging. The purity of gold is measured in carats. However, you may be surprised to know that 24 carat gold is never used as jewelry.
In such a situation, the natural question arises that how can the purity of gold be measured? Usually the purity of gold is checked by hallmark. However, apart from this, there are other ways with the help of which you can identify pure gold.
floor test
This is the easiest way to check the purity of gold. The purity of gold jewellery can be checked at home through the floor test. In which gold jewellery is put in a bucket filled with water. If the jewellery sinks, then assume that it is pure gold. If the jewellery starts floating in water, then understand that it is made of some other metal.
Magnet Testing
Magnet test can also be effective in checking the purity of gold. Gold is a non-magnetic metal. That means magnets have no effect on it. If you bring gold jewellery near a magnet, it will not react. If the jewellery reacts even a little when brought near a magnet, then understand that it is not pure gold.
Acid Test
The best way to check the purity of gold is the acid test. However, some precautions must be taken for this test. This gold testing kit contains hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and a black stone. After rubbing the gold with this stone, you can test it with nitric acid. If this mark dissolves then it is pure gold.
