A resident of Ralamala narrated his ordeal
Jayan, a resident of Churamla, affected by the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, was sleeping in his house on Monday (July 29) night. The terrible sound of torrential rain was heard outside his house. At 1.30 am on Tuesday (July 30), Jayan Safala woke up to a terrible noise and came out of the house and saw that flood water was flowing outside the house and people were climbing on their roofs for help. After this, Jayan, while describing the horrific events of Tuesday morning, said that 'there was neither light nor adequate lighting at the time of the disaster, we were seeing people on the other side of the flood water shouting for help, but due to the terrible flow of water and mud, we were unable to reach them.'
We didn't know what to do
Jayan further became a little emotional and said, 'Mud, water and debris were flowing in front of us and we did not know what to do. Most of the houses in the area disappeared in no time and the surrounding area also became unrecognizable in no time. Water filled with mud and rocks destroyed the houses in which people lived. An area that was once full of life suddenly turned into a river and was filled with mud and debris. Those who managed to escape were crying and calling out the names of their loved ones.'
11 members of my wife's family are missing
Apart from this, Jai also said that 'My wife's relatives are also missing. Who lived in the worst affected area. 11 members of my wife's family are missing. We have identified the body of the child found in the Chaliyar river in Nilambur in Malappuram district as our relative. We have found only 3 bodies so far and the rest are still missing. I am carefully looking at every person I am rescuing and making sure that the person is not from my wife's family. Hopefully we will get some information about the missing family members.'
