Wayanad-disaster…tears…assurances…more than 200 dead so far, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka will meet the victims today

Wayanad, 01 August (HS). More than 200 people have lost their lives so far in the water disaster that occurred in Kerala's hill district Wayanad on Tuesday morning. Three villages have been wiped out due to the landslides caused by torrential rains. Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Wayanad representative in the House, and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have left for Wayanad this morning from their residences in the national capital Delhi.

Relief and rescue operations will continue today as well. So far, 1,592 persons have been rescued and taken to various hospitals during the relief and rescue operations of various forces. 99 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals. Local media reports say that the death toll in the landslide in Choorlamala and Mundakkai areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district has risen to over 200.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to reach Kannur airport at 9:45 am. He will visit relief camps opened for Choorlamala landslide victims in Meppadi and various hospitals. Rahul could not reach Wayanad on Wednesday due to bad weather. Priyanka Gandhi will meet many families affected by the natural disaster during her visit to Wayanad.

The entire country is shocked and stunned by this disaster. The tears of those who have lost their loved ones are not stopping. People are reaching out to them and assuring them that everything will be fine. Meanwhile, it is reported that various upper villages of Thamarassery and Vadakara taluks of nearby Kozhikode district have been affected by the Wayanad disaster. The government has started taking measures to shift the families living here to other places.
