MP Charanjit Singh Channi: The victory of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha elections has been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court Registrar has issued a notice on the petition and fixed the hearing on August 12. Gaurav Luthra, a resident of Jalandhar, had filed a petition saying that Channi had won the election through corrupt means.
Local resident Gaurav Luthra, while filing the petition, told the High Court through advocate Manit Malhotra that Charanjit Singh Channi He has been elected as MP from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. He had hidden many details while filling the nomination form. Along with this, he has also not submitted the correct details of election expenses to the commission.
During the elections, there was a 24-hour catering facility in a hotel, but he did not mention the expenditure in the election campaign details. He held 10-15 public meetings daily, but during this time he did not spend a single vehicle in the campaign. He did a road show in Rama Mandi without permission. Even the expenses of the booths set up outside the polling stations to distribute voter slips were not disclosed.
In such a situation, it becomes clear that Channi used corrupt methods to win the election and hence his election should be canceled under the Representation of the People Act. The petitioner had also complained to the Election Commission in this regard but to no avail. In such a situation, now the petitioner has to seek refuge in the High Court through an election petition.
