Sadhana Saxena Nair will become DG of Army Medical Services, for the first time a woman officer will hold the post

Sadhana Saxena Nair: Lieutenant General Sadhana Saxena Nair will take over as Director General of Medical Services (Army) from August 1. She will be the first woman to be appointed to this prestigious post. Earlier, she was the first woman to take over as Director General of Hospital Services (Armed Forces) after being promoted to the rank of Air Marshal.

When Sadhana Saxena Nair took over as Director General of Hospital Services (Armed Forces) last year, Air Force officials had said, “Air Marshal Sadhana Saxena Nair of the Indian Air Force is effectively the second woman officer to hold various posts in the Air Force. After rendering services during her tenure, she rose to the rank of Air Marshal. Air Force Chief VR Choudhary was also present during the taking over.

Commissioned in Army Medical Corps in 1985

Lieutenant General Sadhana Nair started her schooling from St. Mary's Convent, Prayagraj and completed it from Loreto Convent, Lucknow. In between she attended schools in Tezpur, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Chandigarh. She graduated with distinguished academic record from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned into the Army Medical Corps in December 1985. Sadhana Nair holds a post graduate degree in Family Medicine. She also completed a two-year training programme in Medical Informatics at AIIMS, New Delhi.

He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Medal

Lieutenant General Sadhana received training abroad in CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) warfare and military medical ethics. She was the first and only woman Chief Medical Officer of the Western Air Command and Training Command. Lieutenant General Sadhana has also been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal. She has also received commendations from the Air Force Chief and the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief.
