Four arrested for killing a youth in Mumbra on suspicion of being a thief

Mumbai: Police have arrested four accused who beat a 35-year-old man from Kolkata to death on suspicion of being a thief in Mumbra, an official said on Tuesday.

Senior Police Inspector Anil Shinde of Mumbra Police Station said that on July 24, the body of Shovik Gaur was found in the bushes in the Diva area. He was originally from Kolkata. During the post-mortem, the police found out that the deceased died due to excessive beating. After this, the police have registered a case of murder and started investigation.

During investigation, the police found that last Wednesday at around 5 am, Shouvik came to a car washing service center in Mumbra. For example, four accused were already sitting there, they beat Shouvik with cattle prods on suspicion of being a thief. After this, he was forcibly made to sit in a rickshaw and beaten again, due to which Shouvik died due to serious injuries. After this, the gang threw his body in the bushes and destroyed the evidence.

The police team, working on different leads, arrested the accused Sultan Mahmood Sheikh (age 28), Ritesh Rajendra Prasad Rajbhar (age 28), Akash Sharad Bhoir (age 28) and Jitesh Bhoir (age 30). A case was registered against the accused under sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS).
