New Delhi, July 30 (HS). India suffered two major setbacks on Tuesday in the boxing event of Paris Olympics 2024. Two Indian boxers Amit Panghal and Jasmine Lamboria, who carried the burden of medal hopes, had to face defeat in their very first match.
India's Jasmine Lamboria had to face defeat in the Round of 32 in the 57 kg weight category. Jasmine, who was playing her first Olympics, did not have a good start and in the very first match she was defeated by Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Nesthy Petequi of the Philippines. Jasmine lost the match 0-5.
Earlier, India's hopes were dashed in the form of Amit Panghal in the men's boxing match. Amit Panghal lost 1-4 to Zambia's Patrick Chinyemba in the men's 51 kg round of 16 bout. He also had to face defeat in his first match. Amit could not start well and after losing in the first round, he could not make a comeback. Patrick Chinyemba defeated Amit by a margin of 4-1. This was Amit Panghal's second Olympic Games.
