The Indian men's hockey team took a big step towards adding a medal to the country's tally by registering a comprehensive 2-0 win over Ireland. India's place in the quarter-finals was assured after Argentina registered a 2-0 win over New Zealand late on Tuesday night. After Argentina's win, India briefly topped Pool B.
Belgium eventually defeated Australia 6-2 to dethrone India from the top. With the stunning win, Belgium also qualified for the quarter-finals. After Belgium's result, India are second with seven points from three matches. Belgium's faultless performance at the Paris Olympics helped them reach the top spot with nine points from three matches. India began their campaign with a thrilling 3-2 win over New Zealand. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur rescued a point with a late goal in their second match against Argentina.
