Raipur, July 30 (HS). On one hand, the steel industries in Chhattisgarh have shut down about 150 mini steel plants and 50 other sponge iron plants against the increased electricity bills. On the other hand, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission has released the data of the increase in the discount on consumption based energy charges for the last four years. The commission has said that these industries were given an additional benefit of about Rs 750 crore per year. There is no widespread impact of the strike of the iron industry.
The Electricity Regulatory Commission has released data regarding this today. According to the data, four years ago, the discount given to the high pressure steel industries of Chhattisgarh in consumption based energy charges was suddenly increased from 8 percent to 25 percent. Due to which these industries started getting a benefit of 68 percent all of a sudden. At present, the discount which was suddenly increased surprisingly for unknown reasons by the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission has been reduced in a justifiable manner. Due to this, the additional benefit given to the high pressure steel industries has reduced.
It has been told that earlier, while issuing the tariff order in the year 2021-22, the load factor discount was increased from a maximum of 8 percent to 25 percent. Whereas no such proposal was sent by the power company to the regulatory commission. In this way, despite the logical action taken by the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission last month, the maximum discount (power factor incentive) on load factor has been reduced from 25 percent to 10 percent.
It should be noted that these industries are currently getting 2 percent more discount than the maximum discount of 8 percent which was being given in the year 2021-22. Which cannot be termed unfair in any way. Due to increasing the rate of discount from 8 percent to 25 percent four years ago, the average annual discount given to these industries increased from about Rs 300 crore to about Rs 1100 crore. In this way, these industries were given an additional benefit of about Rs 750 crore per year.
According to the data received from the power company, there is no widespread impact of the strike of the iron industry. On normal days, there is about 600 MW of power load at Urla and Silatra sub-stations. One-third of the power load has been used in both UP centers. Whereas no reduction in power load has been observed in any other power sub-station in the state. No reduction was observed in the power load connected at 220 and 132 kV. In the last two days in the state, from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am on 28 and 29 July, the power load was from 4137 MW to 4253 MW. Whereas from 8 pm to 8 am on 29 and 30 July, the power flow has reached from 4338 MW to 4398 MW.
