Sensex hits new record high of 81908 and finally closes at 81356, up 23 points

MUMBAI: Indian stock markets today hit a new all-time high of 81908.43 on the back of gains in global markets and gains in US, Europe, Asia on expectations of a possible interest rate cut at the Federal Reserve meeting on July 31. The Sensex rose 575.71 points to hit a new all-time high of 81908.43 on the back of aggressive buying by local funds in capital goods stocks led by Larsen & Toubro and gains in Mahindra, State Bank of India, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance among others. But profit booking in foreign funds including Titan, Bharti Airtel, ITC, HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank washed away this surge and hit a low of 81135.91 and finally closed at 81355.85, up 23.12 points. While the Nifty 50 spot opened with a fresh record high of 24999.75 after hitting a low of 24774.60 and finally closed at a new record high of 24836.10, up 1.25 points.

Capital Goods Index increase 2007: Mazgaon Rs. 484, Larsen Rs. 102, Rail Vikas Rs. 54.

The BSE Capital Goods index closed 2007.10 points higher at 75403.36 as funds made aggressive purchases in capital goods, railway stocks today. Mazagon Dock Ship rose by Rs 483.90 to Rs 5341.75, Rail Vikas Nigam rose by Rs 53.95 to Rs 606.65, NBCC rose by Rs 13 to Rs 187.60 after receiving new order, Grindwell Northern 139 rose by Rs 2731.05, Suzlon NG rose by Rs 3.09 to Rs 65, AIA Engineering rose by Rs 193.20 to Rs 4578.75, Teamcan rose by Rs 159.50 to Rs 4166, Bharat Forge rose by Rs 50.05 to Rs 1737.60, Larsen & Toubro rose by Rs 101.60 to Rs 3774.90, Siemens rose by Rs 175.80 to Rs 7096.35, ABB India rose by Rs 128.45 to Rs 7973.35.

Investor asset-market cap rises by Rs. 3.00 lakh crore to a new high of Rs. 459.92 lakh crore

Today, despite the jitters in the stocks, Sensex, Nifty surged, prices of many stocks rose with widespread buying in small, midcap stocks, investor wealth i.e. the total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased by Rs 3.00 lakh crore today to a new record high of Rs 459.92 lakh.

Auto stocks rise again: Ashok Leyland up Rs 10 to Rs 256: Cummins up Rs 74 to Rs 3785

Funds again bought automobile stocks heavily today. Ashok Leyland shares rose by Rs 9.95 to Rs 256.30, Cummins India shares rose by Rs 74.25 to Rs 3785.35, Mahindra & Mahindra shares rose by Rs 48.10 to Rs 48.10 after UBS upgraded the stock from neutral to buy at 2934.95, Balkrishna Industries shares rose by Rs 48.10 to Rs 38.10, Maruti Suzuki rose by Rs 85.90 to Rs 12,763.80, Bajaj Auto rose by Rs 53.40 to Rs 9547. BSE Auto index closed 356.78 points higher at 59591.32.

Oil India gains Rs 20 to Rs 580: BPCL, Indian Oil, HPSL, Reliance attract attention

Oil and gas stocks also gained today, the BSE oil and gas index closed 373.04 points higher at 32235.39 as funds bought heavily in select stocks. Oil India rose by Rs 19.80 to Rs 580.40, BPCL rose by Rs 9.10 to Rs 337.80, Indian Oil Corp rose by Rs 3.65 to Rs 180.20, HPCL rose by Rs 4.75 to Rs 381.20 and BSE closed at Rs 3040.75.

Banking stocks Profit booking in Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank: State Bank, BoB attracted

Banking-finance stocks saw a mixed trend today. Bank of Baroda rose by Rs 6.20 to Rs 255.90, Canara Bank rose by Rs 2.05 to Rs 115.85, State Bank of India rose by Rs 9.05 to Rs 872, ICICI Bank rose by Rs 45 to Rs 1214.15. While Kotak Mahindra Bank fell by Rs 18.90 to Rs 1795.40, HDFC Bank fell by Rs 11.05 to Rs 1606.75.

Net Sale of Shares by FPIs/FIIs Rs.2475 crore: Net Purchase by DIIs Rs.5665 crore

Foreign Portfolio Investors – FPIs, FIIs made a net sale of shares worth Rs 2474.54 crore in cash today on Monday. Total sales of Rs 19,846.41 crore were made against purchase of Rs 17,371.87 crore. While DII-Domestic Institutional Investors made a net purchase of Rs 5665.54 crore in cash today. Total sales of Rs 13,327.84 crore were made against purchase of Rs 18,993.38 crore.

Small, mid-cap stocks surge: 2348 stocks close positive: Small-cap index gains 634 points

Amid a broad wave of bullishness, operators, high net worth investors, a clutch of funds, small cap, mid cap, cash number of stocks, the market breadth remained positive today. Out of the total 4198 stocks traded on the BSE, gainers were 2348 and losers were 1706. The BSE Small Cap index rose 633.82 points to close at 54928.17 and the BSE Mid Cap index rose 382.01 points to close at 48088.68.
