New Delhi, 29 July (HS). The Central Government on Monday allowed the export of one thousand tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Namibia. This rice will be exported to Namibia through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL).
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), export of 1,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice is permitted to Namibia through NCEL. India has earlier permitted such exports to countries like Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines and Seychelles.
The government has banned the export of non-basmati white rice from July 20, 2023 to boost domestic supply. But on special request, export is allowed to some countries to meet their food security needs. It is worth noting that in April-May, India exported non-basmati white rice worth $ 122.7 million, while in the entire financial year 2023-24, exports were worth $ 852.53 million.
